October 21, 2018, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Black Stevens Conservation Area
The South Hadley Bike-Walk Committee invites the public on a guided trek of the recently cleaned-up Black Stevens Conservation Area. Come explore the multi-trail system that crisscrosses the diverse and historic woods between the South Hadley High School and the Plains Elementary School.
The approximately 1.5 hour trek is relatively flat over leaf-lined and dirt paths with several moderate ascents and descents.
Meet at 12:45 pm at the South Hadley High School parking lot on Rt 116. Park in the Student’s Drop-Off area lot on the far right for closer access to the trailhead. Wear weather-appropriate clothing, safe footwear, and bring water and optional snacks. Post-trek, please join BWC members in the parking lot for light refreshments and socializing!
Non-enjoyable or hazardous inclement weather/conditions will force a cancellation; if that should appear necessary, please check the Town’s website (www.southhadley.org) for a Community News notification.
October 18, 2018, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Auditorium
South Hadley Police Chief Steven Parentela is retiring, and a new police chief will soon be appointed. As we congratulate and thank Chief Parentela for his long-time commitment and contribution, we would like to use this transition period to reach out and ask town residents to come together in a symposium of understanding to discuss what they believe is important for the incoming police chief to know about our community.
Please join us to be part of discussion on the input we together want to provide to who will take on the responsibilities of police chief. We’ll start at 6 p.m. with snacks and light refreshments, and then move to a series of large and small group discussions. The input gathered will be used to help inform our hiring process and the new chief.
Residents are welcome to decide at any time whether to come, but an RSVP will help with planning. Please RSVP to Mike Sullivan at email@example.com or Sarah Etelman at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Did you know that 35 percent of residents in South Hadley are considered housing cost-burdend? Meaning they spend 30 percent or more of their income on housing. Come learn about additional housing needs in town, potential solutions to remedy them, and provide input on where future housing development in town should be directed.
